Doha: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has released the second batch of 4,300 baby Hamour fish weighing 15gm each in Qatari sea water as part of the pilot project to increase the strategic stock of fish in the sea.
In the first batch, in the second week of July, 2020, the Ministry had released 20,000 larvae of Hamour fish in the sea for the same purpose.
The baby fish was produced in the Aquatic Research Canter of MME at Ras Matbakh under the project which aims to increase strategic stock of local fish with economic value, said the Ministry in a release.
The project is part of the second national development program 2018-20 of national resources. The ambitious programme helps the Fish Affairs Department at MME in implementing the project of releasing larvae of local fish in high demand to ensure the food security in the country.
