Doha: Serbian Miodrag Perisic will take over as the new coach of the national team, the Qatar Basketball Association (QBA) announced yesterday.
The 48-year-old, who has previously coached club teams in Lebanon, Romania and Bahrain, will succeed former coach Cypriot Paniatos who’s contract was ended by the QBF last month. Perisic also had coaching stints at clubs in Egypt and Tunisia.
He has also coached the Egyptian national team. “Perisic will coach the first basketball team, during the coming period. He will arrive in Doha in the coming days to take on his mission, as the QBF decided to dismiss Cypriot Paniatus due to poor results,” the QBF announced on their social media platforms.
Perisic's most notable accolades as coach include winning the Dubai Cup, Lebanese Cup and Egyptian Championships multiple times. Asia-Basket.com also named him the All-Lebanese League Coach of the Year for the 2019-20 season.
