Toastmasters District 116- Qatar received another high accolade when its International speech contestant Nisha Shivram was judged as the second-place winner in the Region 11 Quarterfinals of World Championship of Public Speaking Contest. Region 11 consists of eight districts that include 34 countries from Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
“Nisha Shivram, a member of Toastmasters since 2007, has been taking part in Speech Contests for the last seven years and represented and won at the Middle East level. Qatar became an independent district effective July 2018, and that enabled Nisha to represent at the Region level directly and was placed second with her speech titled “Finish The Race.” It is for the first time that Qatar has a winner at this level of contest,” said Rajeswar Sundaresan, Past District Director.
“The credit of this achievement goes to my mentor Vinod Pisharom, for his guidance throughout the contests. My heartfelt gratitude to Toastmasters that has been helping individuals like me become a better communicator and leader since 1924,” said Nisha. Nisha has been residing in Qatar since 2007 and works as a corporate trainer
“The news of Nisha’s win at Region level speech contest came soon after Qatar being declared the best District in the world, and this further reinforced our preeminence in communication front. Improving public speaking and communication skills of members are the core of the Toastmasters program and winning speech contests validate deliverables of the education program. Toastmasters powerful tagline ‘Where leaders are made’ sums up the nexus between communication and leadership,” said Rajeswar.
Each year, the Toastmasters International Convention culminates in the final round of the International Speech Contest, where the World Champion of Public Speaking ® is chosen. This exciting event this year will be held in Denver, Colorado, where six contestants from all over the world deliver 5- to 7-minute speeches that are evaluated by a panel of experienced Toastmasters. After a year of competing in club, area, division, district, region quarterfinal and semifinal competitions, these contestants advance for the chance to win this prestigious title of World Champion of Public Speaking.
