Riyadh: Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) HE Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi welcomed the signing of the peace agreement between the Republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, praising the efforts made by the United States of America and the State of Qatar.
In a statement, HE Secretary General expressed hope that this agreement will contribute to ending tensions, fulfilling the aspirations of the people of both countries for security and stability, supporting the paths of prosperity and development in their region, and enhancing opportunities for regional and international peace and security.
His Excellency also noted the positive and growing role of the GCC countries in supporting peaceful solutions and promoting security and stability in various regions of the world, stressing the firm commitment of the Council states to the diplomatic approach and dialogue as essential tools for addressing international and regional crises and achieving sustainable development.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda signed a peace agreement in Washington, DC, raising hopes for an end to the fighting that has killed thousands and displaced hundreds of thousands of others since the beginning of the year.
