Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) has firmly denied recent media reports suggesting that ITTF President Petra Sorling felt unsafe and was escorted out under duress during the 2025 ITTF Annual General Meeting (AGM), hosted in Doha on Tuesday.
In an official statement, QTTA emphasised that all security, protocol, and logistical services during the event functioned smoothly and without interruption. President Sorling, like all attending officials, had access to 24/7 VIP transport, hotel-based support and unrestricted movement throughout the venue.
“Video footage clearly shows that Ms. Sorling exited the stage voluntarily and returned to her room within the same hotel complex, without any intervention or diplomatic escort,” the statement noted. There was no confrontation, nor any compromise to her personal security.”
While acknowledging that personal perceptions of discomfort may vary, QTTA stressed that subjective feelings do not equate to a security breach. The organisation confirmed it had received no complaints or assistance requests from President Sorling or the ITTF Executive, either during or after the AGM.
QTTA also highlighted its longstanding collaborative relationship with Sorling and reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and hospitality.
“She has always benefited from QTTA’s full cooperation and support in numerous international settings,” the statement added. “It is regrettable that the current narrative implies hostility or neglect.”
The association concluded by standing firmly behind the efforts of its staff and volunteers, who ensured that all delegates were treated with respect, care, and dignity throughout the event.
