The Quran Prize for Quran Recitation organised by the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara named the nominees for the semi-finals in the competition that is broadcasted daily on Qatar TV.
Aside from the Arab qualifiers, competitors from the Philippines and Iran were among the 25 nominated children who will be joining participants from Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Jordan, Mauritania, Syria, Egypt and Yemen.
Quran reciter and competitor Khalid Mamada from Philippines said the prize is very reputable in Asian countries, especially in the Philippines where Muslim Quran students are keen to take part in a well-organised competition joined by professional and well-known reciters.
Nearly 100 nominees were selected from 1,700 applicant from around the world to participate in this renowned competition.
The total cash prize is QR1.5m.The first prize winner will get QR500,000, whereas the second will get QR400,000, third QR300,000, while fourth and fifth will get QR200,000 and QR100,000 respectively.
