Doha: Stepping up efforts to ensure a safe and clean dining experience for customers, the restaurants and online food delivery platforms have started contactless home delivery service. KFC, Pizza Hut, Talabat, Hardee’s and other restaurants and have started offering contactless home delivery of food orders to limit the spread of COVID-19.

The idea behind the contactless delivery is to avoid any kind of contact between the delivery person and the customer receiving the food item. Once the customer has opted for contactless home delivery, the delivery person keeps the food near the door at the designated place and steps back to maintain a safe distance. If the customer has opted for cash payment instead of online payment, then he is required to give exact amount of cash to the delivery person.

“All of our deliveries are now completely contactless for your safety and that of our riders,” said Pizza Hut on its website. “Our drivers use mini-stools to place food on while they step back to help keep a safe distance from your home entrance. Simply pick up your order from our sanitised mini-stool, then enjoy your delicious meal,” it added explaining the steps involved in contactless home delivery.

“In light of recent events with the outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus), we’d like to keep you informed of the steps we’ve taken at Pizza Hut in partnership with the government to assure you that our number one priority is the health and safety of our customers,” added Pizza Hut.

The move is aimed at increasing the trust of customers and ensuring customer’s and rider’s safety by maintaining highest possible hygiene.

“Customers are strongly encouraged to pay with debit/credit cards online for a smooth contactless delivery experience. If you are paying with cash, please prepare the exact amount, otherwise, your delivery will not be contactless,” Hardee’s wrote on its website explaining about contactless home delivery.

Last month, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry had instructed delivery companies to follow strict precautionary measures to preserve the safety of citizens and residents. “To guarantee that your food is kept safe and clean, we are introducing the contactless delivery service, where your food is dropped at your doorstep with zero contact,” said KFC Qatar on its website. Last week, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) had launched a campaign to educate children about the importance of receiving home delivery services safely. The campaign ‘Junior Home Inspector’ provides basic information to children about receiving home delivery services safely.
