Participants at the 4th Humanities Conference.
The 4th Humanities Conference under the theme “A Nation in Transition” kicked off yesterday at the City Centre Rotana, Doha.
The conference is organised by Community College of Qatar (CCQ) and attended by trustees council of the college, representatives from Qatar University, Ooredoo, RasGas, QAPCO, and a number of researchers in the a area of humanities.
In his opening speech, Dr Ibrahim Al Naimi, President of CCQ, emphasised the vital role of humanities on nation’s development, where Qatar has successfully managed to realise quality achievements in key sectors like education he said.
He appreciated role of sponsors of the conference for distinct arrangements which is essential for success of the conference.
The company pay significant attention to education and research sectors in line with goals of National Vision 2030 aiming to change Qatari society into knowledge based society said Manar Khalifa Al Muraikhi, Director of Public Relation at Ooredoo.
Keynote speaker included US Ambassador to Qatar Dana Shell Smith who delivered speech on “How Qatar’s 2030 Vision will affect transition in Qatar and beyond”. Smith highlighted the development Qatar has witnessed in the process of transition moving towards knowledge economy, technology and big role for social media opening wider dialogue between peoples and impacting political transitions in the world. She also lauded the development of CCQ which according to her has is significant in terms of its facilities, academic programmes and educational opportunities it has created for students.
The first day sessions covered a number of issues related to nation in transition; including impact of Qatar Vision 2030 on changes and transition of the state, analytical concept for Arab Spring, influence of social media on societies at the stage of transition, role of higher education in the transition process, role of women and Islamic view about changes and transition, and language policies at transitions.
The conference will continue today from 9:00 am to 3:0 pm focusing on women in the Islamic World, transitions in the developed countries, influence of technology on education, dialogue and setting up policies encouraging economic development.
