The Ministry of Economy and Commerce is offering 12 vacancies for vehicle vendors to apply for a licence in businesses including eatery, ice-cream parlor, tyre repair and beauty salon.
The opportunities include five food related activities including cold and hot food and beverages and ice-cream. Four business activities are related to repair and maintenance - repairing tyres and those related to home maintenance like electrician, carpenter and blacksmith.
And three activities are related to services like men and women salon, and tailoring shop for men and women.
Vendor vehicles are those moving on the road, either driven by people or trawled by cars and they are used for selling goods or for providing services on streets, roadsides or other public places.
The move to licence vendor vehicles is part of the ministry's project to support the private sector creating business opportunities for them in line with the Ministerial Decision No. 243 of 2016 on licensing vendors, said a statement yesterday.
Vehicle eatery should have fire detection system
To obtain a licence for vendor vehicle the applicant needs a commercial registration (CR), road permit from the Traffic Department and health certificates for the workers from the Ministry of Public Health.
As for a vehicle eatery, it should be equipped with a proper fire detection system powered with battery, fire blanket, fire extinguisher as the requirements to obtain approval from Civil Defense. Eateries also need approval from the Ministry of Municipality and Environment for related to hygiene.
The application form is available at the the website of the ministry www.mec.gov.qa. An illustrated design of the vendor vehicle should be attached with the application. The candidate is also required to give some details in the application like how many workers he would employ. The duly-filled application form may be emailed to [email protected].
After initial approval, the applicant will be notified to visit the department concerned.
Eligible applicants will be selected through a raffle. And the applications should meet the terms and condition completely to get an entry into raffle.
Applications will be received from January 1, 2017 to February 1, 2017. The winners will be announced on February 8, 2017.
The licensed vendors are allowed to do only one type of business and should comply with traffic rules. They have to keep away from entrance and exit of schools, hospitals, mosques and other places specified by the authorities concerned. The mobile vendor should keep a distance of at least 50 meters from shops doing the same type of business.
The final approval will be issued by the Traffic Department after ensuring the vehicle has mert the requirements of traffic and general safety.
