The route map for 2017 Doha Triathlon.
The 2017 Doha Triathlon, organised by the TricClub Doha in partnership with the Qatar Cycling Federation and local sports marketing and management agency, Tasama, will take place at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park on January 20, 2017. The triathlon will be run over two distances, the full Olympic distance; a 1500m swim followed by a 40km bike, finishing with a 10km run and a half distance Sprint event. The Doha Triathlon is open to all, both men and women.
Triathletes can register for participation through the www.A1Registration.net web site and race organisers expect the race will sell out very quickly as it will be the first time a triathlon of this scale has taken place inside the ionic MIA park.
Sheikh Khalid Bin Ali Al Thani, President of the Qatar Cycling Federation, which governs triathlon in Qatar said, “Triathlon is a sport that’s growing very quickly both in Qatar and across the region. In Qatar, we are blessed with perfect conditions and venues for the sport. None better than Museum of Islamic Art Park.”
He continued, “TriClub Doha has done an excellent job in promoting and growing the sport in Qatar and so I’m delighted that we’re able to continue this development with a first class Olympic distance and Sprint event right in the heart of Doha. The Doha Triathlon will allow athletes to swim in the azure waters of Doha Bay before taking on the bike ride along the stunning Doha Corniche and then finally completing a challenging triathlon with a run in the pristine grounds of MIA Park.”
Hatem El Safty, President of TriClub Doha, is predicting a sell-out for the event.
“We are delighted to be announcing this event today and I know triathletes all over Qatar are looking forward to racing in the grounds of MIA Park. It’s an amazing venue with spectacular views of the West Bay skyline and the Museum and so it’s sure to be a sell-out,” said the Club President.
“We’ve been talking to the MIA for some time and held a junior test event last year, so we know the venue well. It’s really well suited to triathlon and we can’t wait to race around the park and along the Corniche, it’s the venue in Doha and will showcase our sport as its very best. Triathlon has been growing very quickly in Qatar and across the region, so it’s time that we stage a big event in an iconic venue – Doha Triathlon is the event. ”
Daniel Brown, Acting Director at The Museum of Islamic Art who welcomes the use of the park for high profile events such as Doha Triathlon said, "The Museum of Islamic Art is one of Qatar’s most important and iconic landmarks. It has quickly become a destination for tourists and residents alike. The park comes alive every weekend and we’re delighted to welcome triathlon to our growing list of community and international events.”
