ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is among the few parliamentarians who are billionaires, revealed statements of assets and liabilities of lawmakers for the year 2012-13 issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
According to the declaration filed by Sharif, he owns six agriculture properties with over 1,700 canals worth Rs1.43bn and a house in Upper Mall, Lahore valued at Rs250m. The statement said that he has made investments of over Rs13m and has Rs126m in seven bank accounts.
He has received Rs 197.4m in remittances from his son Hussain Nawaz as well. He owns a Toyota Land Cruiser (2010 model) as well as the 1973 and 1991 models of Mercedes Benz.
The premier also owns a 1991 model tractor. His wife Kulsoom Nawaz owns a bungalow worth Rs100m. She owes Rs1.75m to two people.
Eight killed in Karachi city
KARACHI: At least eight people, including six Lyari gang war suspects, were killed yesterday in Karachi, DawnNews reported.
Six Lyari gang war suspects were shot dead and their bodies were discovered in the Pak Colony area of Old Golimar near Rexer Bridge. The deceased persons belonged to Lyari’s Uzair Baloch group. The six men were abducted on Thursday and then gunned down.
According to the police, the killings were due to an ongoing rivalry between Lyari’s Uzair Baloch and Baba Ladla groups.
Tribals to join anti-polio drive
KHYBER: In the wake of threat to the polio workers from the terrorists and their refusal to carry out the polio drive, the political administration of Khyber tribal region has decided to deploy Khasadar Force personnel to conduct the vaccination campaign.
The region has registered two more polio case in December increasing the number of cases to 19 during 2013, the highest in any district of Pakistan.
About 60 tribal Khasadar force personnel have been trained to vaccinate the children. The anti-campaign begins in the first week of January.
