Doha: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce fined six shops in Sealine area for breaking consumer protection laws.
Ministry conducted surprise inspections in many retail shops and winter camps in the area, which includes shops selling food items, electrical materials, restaurants, bike rental shops and auto repair shops.
The raids resulted in six violations from failing to announce product/service prices, failing to clearly announce product/service prices, failing to issue bills thus violating Article (8) of 2008 on Consumer Protection, which states that the supplier is obliged to clearly include the price of the product or the service when displaying or advertising it.
QR6,000 was collected as fine from every shop found violating the laws in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Consumer Protection Anti-Commercial Fraud department.
The inspection comes within the framework of the ministry's keenness to monitor markets and commercial activities in a bid to crack down on price manipulation and protect consumer rights.
The ministry stressed that it will not tolerate any violations of the Consumer Protection Law and its regulations, and will intensify its inspection campaigns to crack down on violators. The ministry said it will refer those who break laws and ministerial decrees to competent authorities, who will in turn take appropriate action against perpetrators in order to protect consumer rights.
The ministry urged all consumers to report violations to the Consumer Protection and Anti-Commercial Fraud department through call centre: 16001 or email: [email protected]
