COTABATO CITY: Government operatives arrested yesterday a 50-year-old New Zealander accused of raping two Visayan girls from Kidapawan City.
Superintendent Renante Cabico, director of the Kidapawan City police, said the suspect, David William Wakefield, was arrested in Davao City after several days of surveillance.
Wakefield did not resist arrest when frisked by operatives of the Kidapawan city police and local staffers of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Cabico said the foreigner was reported to have molested two girls, ages 12 and 13, from Kidapawan City while in a hotel in Davao City.
The two girls, accompanied by elders, reported the incident to the Kidapawan police Monday.
Wakefield works for a certain Mecs Labour Hiring Company based in Mozambique, Cabico said.
The two girls, allegedly molested by Wakefield, led Cabico help identify him when they raided the hotel in Davao City, where he was to board a plane bound for Manila, en route to Mozambique.
The two victims were reportedly “hired” by two women in Kidapawan City, promised P1,500 ($33) each, and where brought to Wakefield’s hotel room, where they were molested one after another.
Policemen recovered from Wakefield a mobile phone containing nude photos of the two girls.
Cabico said they will file statutory rape and human trafficking charges against Wakefield on Monday.
