DOHA: Ambulance Unit of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) yesterday received 316 emergency calls, a major portion of which was from workers based in Industrial Area.
About 30 percent of calls were from workers, mostly suffering from respiratory problems. Huge gatherings during Eid Al Adha holidays attended by large number of expatriate workers led to an increase in such cases, Al Sharq reported, quoting an official.
Ambulance Unit also reported 18 traffic accidents until 6pm yesterday. Most were minor but at least two cases were referred to emergency care. The Emergency Department at HMC received 812 cases from 6am to 6pm yesterday, including minor injuries due to road accidents, stomach disorders, respiratory problems and heart ailments. Twenty-two were referred to specialists. The fourth day of Eid witnessed an increase in the number of visitors at the Emergency Department, said the daily, quoting a consultant. The number of visitors increases during holidays partly because most health centres remain closed.
