Minister of State for Energy Affairs, H E Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, participating in the virtual the extraordinary meeting of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity.
Doha: Minister of State for Energy Affairs, H E Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, headed Qatar’s delegation in the extraordinary meeting of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity, which was held virtually yesterday due to the current circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his remarks on this occasion, Al Kaabi said, “The Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity comes at a critical time that requires the exchange of visions and experiences, as well as unified efforts by Arab member countries in order to enhance cooperation between Arab countries in the field of electricity, especially during the exceptional circumstances the world is facing.”
The Minister added, “The efforts of the Arab countries, with the participation of the State of Qatar, were successful in ensuring ministers’ approval of the General Agreement, and the Arab Common Market for Electricity, which opens new horizons of Arab cooperation and coordination, enhancing integration between Arab countries, and realizing the aspirations of its people for progress, and prosperity.” He also reaffirmed the State of Qatar’s commitment to help strengthen Arab cooperation in the field of electricity, as part of our wise leadership’s belief in the role of the electricity sector in advancing economic and social development for the peoples of the Arab nation.” Today’s meeting started with a speech by H E Dr. Muhammad Shaker Al-Marqabi, the Chairman of the extraordinary meeting of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity, followed by H E Ahmed Abul-Ghait, the Arab League Secretary-General. The meeting also witnessed a presentation and a discussion of the items on the agenda, during which the meeting approved the General Agreement, and the Arab Common Market for Electricity Agreement.
The meeting was also attended by Essa Hilal Al-Kuwari, the President of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa). The ministerial meeting was preceded by the twelfth meeting of the Electricity Experts Committee in the Arab Countries, which was held with the participation of the State of Qatar, and has submitted the most important recommendations on the Arab Common Market for Electricity to the Council.
