Miami: CONCACAF announced on Monday a new qualifying format for the  2022 World Cup that will involve eight teams in the final round as part of a newly revised international calendar.

The CONCACAF said in a statement today that the revised format will see 30 teams ranked outside the top five participate in the first round. They will be divided into six groups of five teams each. Only the winner of each group reaches the second round of qualifications. In the first round, each team will play two home and two away matches.

The second round will consist of a playoff round, with the winners moving to the next round to face the top five ranked teams. Those remaining eight teams will play each other home and away, with the top three reaching the World Cup, while the fourth will play a play-off match with a team from another continent.
