Doha: The College of Public Policy (CPP) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), is organising an online panel discussion to examine how the pandemic is transforming the field of policy evaluation at the international Development Studies Association (DSA) Annual Conference 2021.
Under the auspices of CPP’s program for social policy evaluation and research (PROSPER), Evaluation in Times of COVID-19 in the Global South will be chaired by Dr. Anis Ben Brik, an associate professor at CPP, and PROSPER’s founding director.
The panel will feature top scholars in the development studies community, providing a space for discussions on the enormous ethical, conceptual, and methodological challenges facing governments, international NGOs, evaluators, and international organizations in their evaluation work.
Specialists from diverse disciplines and methodologies will present theoretical and empirical contributions that introduce a comparative and uniquely regional perspective from the Global South. Dr. Ben Brik will share insights from his forthcoming “Handbook on Social Program Evaluations in the Global South”.
“As many countries begin moving toward the post-COVID-19 phase, governments, international NGOs, evaluators, and international organizations need to rethink the field of evaluation,” said Dr. Anis Ben Brik.
“The timing of the conference, with its intent to bring in new forms of knowledge, comes at a critical time and we look forward to making a contribution that leads to better social outcomes. Our research activities at PROSPER give us insights into how program evaluation challenges can impact decisions that directly affect the lives of vulnerable communities.”
The DSA Conference 2021 will focus on “Unsettling Development”, exploring themes such as COVID-19, climate change, populism, and demands for racial justice while encompassing a broad range of development studies interests. Organized by the University of East Anglia, the conference takes place online from June 28 to July 2.
