Doha, Qatar: Qatar University’s (QU) Center for Advanced Materials (CAM) recently hosted an Open Day event which aims to build and enhance partnerships and relationships between CAM, the industrial sector, and various national institutions in the country in the academic, training, and research fields.
The event was attended by Dr. Hassan Al Derham, QU President; Prof. Mariam Al Maadeed, QU Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies; and a large number of representatives from institutions, sectors, and industrial entities, whether governmental or private in the country, in addition to QU members, officials, faculty members, staff, and students.
In her speech, Professor Al Maadeed, said, “Open day at the Center for Advanced Materials, embodies Qatar University’s efforts to develop its services and meet the growing requirements of society and the country. The center has extensive experience and high-impact research and applied practices, achieving distinguished accomplishments in materials science and technology, making it one of the most important research centers in the region. CAM also has a solid tradition of providing expertise, advice, and knowledge transfer to various industrial and service entities, and it continues to launch innovative initiatives and programmes, diversifying and expanding projects while providing the requirements for their implementation, evaluation of results, and development.”
She added, “The Center also prioritises capacity building and the development of national capabilities by involving students in all research, training, and educational projects. Today’s event is an inspiring initiative, and we wish it great success. It is an occasion where stakeholders from academics, industry professionals, and decision-makers come together to enhance collaboration and cooperative work in meeting needs, solving problems, facing challenges, and working together to achieve sustainable development goals and the Qatar National Vision for 2030.”
Professor Dr. Mohammad Irshidat, Director of CAM, said: “The main objective of this event is to revive and strengthen the good relationship between the center and the industrial sector and national institutions in the country. The activities of this day include an exhibition showcasing the center’s important products, innovations, and achievements. Afterwards, we will take a tour of the center to get acquainted with its various laboratories and the modern equipment, devices, and technologies they contain. Finally, a dialogue session will be held to discuss the relationship between the academic, research, and industrial sectors in the country, as well as the most important measures to be taken to enhance this relationship and solve the challenges and problems they face.”
He pointed out that CAM currently has 17 faculty researchers, seven permanent research assistants, and three laboratory technicians, along with more than 50 research assistants working on various research projects. These researchers cover 11 diverse research fields.
