Doha: In a bid to limit the parking of trucks in residential areas, more parking lots have been designated in different areas of the country.

“The work is underway to establish parking lots for trucks in a number of areas of the country including in Constituency No. 13. These parking lots have been designed on large areas according to best standards. They will serve to limit the parking of trucks inside residential areas,” the General Directorate of Traffic has revealed.

The Constituency No. 13 consists of areas including Al Maarad, Al-Sailiya, New Industrial Area, Fareej Al-Manasir and Fareej Al Murra. The plan was shared in a virtual meeting organised by the Department and attended by Mohammad Hamad Al Attan, vice president of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) and representative of Constituency No. 13.

The meeting comes within the community partnership program that the Department is implementing within the framework of its annual plan, in cooperation with the Hamad Trauma Center at Hamad Medical Corporation.

The meeting was attended by Colonel Mohamed Radi Al Hajri, Director of the Awareness and Information Department; Dr Hassan Al Thani, Head of Trauma and Vascular Surgery Section, HMC; Major Mohammad Sulaiman Al Hammadi, Head of the Traffic Awareness Department; Lieutenant Engineer Abdullah Maarafih, Traffic Safety Officer; Lieutenant Hamad Saeed Al Marri, Patrol and Traffic Investigation Officer, and a number of people from the Constituency No. 13.

At the beginning of the meeting, Colonel Mohamed Radi Al Hajri stressed the importance of the meetings organized by the Department with members of the Central Municipal Council, in identifying the traffic situation in the different geographical areas of the country.

He pointed out that the main goal of these meetings is to extend bridges of communication and cooperation between the Department and all segments of society, and to remind people of the rules of safe driving, adding that the past meetings with members of the Central Municipal Council resulted in many constructive ideas and found solutions that contributed to enhancing safety and the level of traffic services in those departments.

Dr Hassan Al Thani discussed the most prominent causes of traffic accidents that the center receives, noting that the center has conducted many studies and statistics in this regard that will improve the level of health services provided by the center to accident victims.

“The State of Qatar has achieved, during the past few years, a significant decrease in the traffic death accidents, thanks to the concerted efforts of all concerned authorities in the country, the application of best practices and international standards in the areas of infrastructure and health services,” he noted, adding that these efforts resulted in a significant drop in the death rate in road accidents in Qatar from the global average.

Mohammad Hamad Al Attan, vice president of the Central Municipal Council, and representative of Constituency No. 13 praised the great interest that the General Directorate of Traffic attaches to the suggestions of the members of the Central Municipal Council, and the transformation of these proposals into tangible results on the ground, in a way that contributes to meeting the needs of citizens and residents.

He said that most of the traffic issues in the Constituency No. 13 were mainly due to trucks parking, the need to review entrances and exits related to traffic diversions among others.

In response to the suggestions of the people, Lieutenant Engineer Abdullah Maarafi said that the General Directorate of Traffic stresses on the companies implementing road development on the necessity to provide safe entrances and exits to residential areas and public facilities.
