Financial sector a model in using technology

Doha: Qatar Central Bank (QCB) Governor H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Saud Al Thani said yesterday that the financial sector of Qatar is a model in technology used in infrastructure and systems in the field of information security,
“Qatari financial sector is a model in using technology in its infrastructure and system in Information security aspects, in collaboration with international specialised companies, which are applying the best practices as per the international standards,” said the Governor speaking at the conference on Information Security for the Financial Sector. 
The Governor said that the central bank has the best professionals who are capable to meet any challenges in the field of information security.
“QCB is using the best professionals who have rich experience and deep knowledge in different areas of information security. All financial institutions in Qatar are working in accordance with a common vision to realise the aim of ensuring information security and implementing policies that develop the financial sector,” said the Governor. 
He said that the central bank has formed a joint committee with other banks operating in Qatar for information security and to build the capabilities of the staffs to ensure individuals and institutions information security. The committee also works to ensure the safety of emails of financial institutions.
H E Minister of Information and Communications Technology Dr Hessa Al Jaber said ICT Qatar has, in the past, has been cooperating with the financial sector to counter any cyber threats. 
She said that the cooperation, with both the public and private sector, was successful in limiting cyber threats. She stressed on the importance of having the necessary infrastructure to set up a system for combating cyber threats in the financial sector. HE the minister added that another way of limiting cyber threats were through raising awareness in the banking sector and its client of how to increase the safety of their banking services.
