Students planting flower plants to mark Qatar Environment Day.
The Friends of the Environment Center has celebrated the Qatar Environment Day which falls on February 26, in partnership with the Youth Club of Jumailiya, the Department of Agricultural Affairs and the Department of Hygiene.
The event, attended by 250 people, focused on the protection of natural resources of the country as part of the leadership’s efforts to implement the fourth pillar of Qatar National Vision to achieve sustainable environmental development and to implement the national approach aimed at making Qatar an advanced country.
The Center also organised exhibitions in Al Salam Primary Independent School for Girls and Al Markhia Primary School for Girls to introduce students to the importance of preserving the environment.
During the event lectures were given on the most important plants that grow in the Qatari environment, such as Shafallah, Kalman, Sidr and many others.
Farhoud Al Hajri, Chairman of the Friends of the Environment Center, stressed that preserving the environment is the responsibility of each individual in his personal capacity as well as the responsibility of the institutions.
He pointed out that the duties of individuals and institutions towards the environment are two legislative and behavioural aspects.
“And each flower spring program always emphasises the importance of preserving the environment and maintenance of its components and not to harm them and protect them for present and future generations,” said Al Hajri.
He pointed out that the objective of Qatar Environment Day is to spread the culture of individual responsibility towards their environment, and this is an active contribution to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030.
