Humam Tariq scored the decisive penalty as Muaither beat Mesaimeer in the shootout 5-4 in the preliminary round play-off and enter the Round of 16 of the 2023 Ami Cup yesterday. Both teams were locked at 2-2 after the regulation time. Muaither went ahead through Farri Agri in the 15th minute, before Helerson do Nascimento equalised for Mesaimeer in the 50th minute. Muaither pulled ahead again through Nabi El Zhar’s 64th-minute strike, but Robson da Silva converted a penalty
four minutes later to make it 2-2.
