QatarDebate, a member of Qatar Foundation, recently organised the third Qatar Universities Debate League (QUDL) in English. Some 20 teams from 8 institutions participated in the tournament held at the Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar.
The participants debated around three motions during the tournament. The rounds discussed three thought-provoking topics: “This house would offer Omar Al Bashir immunity in return for leaving power’: ‘this house would aggressively downsize megacities in developing countries’: ‘this house would only allow non-commercial research and development of CRISPR technology’.
Qatar University, Weill Cornell Medicine in Qatar, Northwestern University in Qatar, Georgetown University Qatar scored high points during the tournament.
While, QatarDebate in collaboration with the “National Committee for the Prohibition of Weapons’ (NCPW)” for the third year held a Public Debate between the top 4 teams of the Qatar Universities Debate League Tournament. The Public Debate followed the Qatar University Debate League.
They debate on, ‘This House Would ban all research on biological weapons.’ The event was an opportunity to showcase the talents and skills of debaters taking on a topic of national interest and relevance, for the viewing pleasure of students of the secondary and post-secondary level, and the general public.
