The Indonesian diaspora, in collaboration with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, held an Islamic lecture programme in Qatar on January 24-27.
Well-known Indonesian preacher, Ustadz Dr Syafiq Riza Basalamah M A, presented three days of lecture in Doha, Wakrah and Al Khor.
Dr Basalamah has been visiting three countries during his lecture series - Oman, Qatar and the UAE. Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar, Air Marshal (Ret) Muhammad Basri Sidehabi, appreciated the role of Indonesian community under the aegis of the Indonesian Community Association in Qatar (Permiqa) chaired by Edwin Kurniawan to promote socio-cultural activities by arranging various lectures in Qatar.
According to Ambassador Basri, Permiqa plays an important role for strengthening the relationship between the preachers and national leaders for the betterment of the country as well as in promoting good relations between Indonesia and Qatar, particularly in socio-cultural activities through lecture series.
In his speech, the Ambassador urged his compatriots to respect the Qatari law and traditions. “All Indonesian fellow citizens residing in Qatar are advised to respect the law and the tradition of the host country and to contribute in further strengthening Indonesia - Qatar friendly relations. By holding this lecture series, we are confident that the bilateral relations between the two countries will continue to develop in the future,” said the former member of Indonesian Parliament.
The participants of the lectures were not only from Indonesian community but also from Asean member countries such as Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Qataris from all parts of Qatar including Doha, Dukhan, Al Khor, Mesaieed and Al Wakra. According to Ustadz Syukron Habibie, the program organizer, by holding these lectures, "we wish the participants will improve their Islamic knowledge and improve their taqwa in the Almighty Allah and His Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
