Cabinet approves anti-money laundering draft law

Doha: The Cabinet which met yesterday with Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani in the chair approved a draft law on Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism.

The draft law replaces Law No. 4 of 2010, in light of the modernisation of international standards of Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism, and enables financial institutions and competent authorities to deal effectively with financial crime, thus protecting the economic system from exploitation by criminal elements.

Following the meeting, Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Dr. Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi stated that the Cabinet reviewed topics on its meeting’s agenda.

The Cabinet also approved a draft law on preventive measures against animal-originated infectious and epidemiological diseases in the GCC countries, and a draft decision by the Minister of Commerce and Industry amending some provisions of decision No. 2 of 1988 regarding the maximum prices for the sale of Australian sheep meat and the regulation of its trading.

The Cabinet, moreover, approved a draft memorandum of understanding on the provision of explosives control equipment to enhance the security of civil aviation at Hamad International Airport in Qatar between the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the State of Qatar and the Department for Transport in the United Kingdom, and a draft letter of intent between the Municipality of Doha in the State of Qatar and the Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires in the Argentine Republic.

It also took the necessary measures for the ratification of: An agreement on the encouragement and protection of mutual investments between the Government of the State of Qatar and the Government of the Republic of Rwanda. 

A Memorandum of Understanding for Economic, Commercial and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the State of Qatar and the Government of the Republic of Rwanda. 

A twinning agreement between the Municipality of Doha in the State of Qatar and the Municipality of Quito in the Republic of Ecuador.

The Cabinet then reviewed the following topics and took the appropriate decision: The letter of H E the Minister of State for Energy Affairs on the amendment of some provisions of a number of legislative instruments. 

The letter of H E the Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs on the 4th and 5th annual reports of the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law. 

The memorandum of H E the Minister of Public Health on the results of the 4th meeting of the Ministers of Health Committee and the  81st meeting of the Council of Ministers of Health of the GCC countries (Kuwait - October 2018).
