Qatar wins 3 awards in GCC health media contest

DOHA: Qatar has won three prizes in the fifth Gulf Excellence Award Health Media 2013-2014 organised by the Executive Board of Health Ministers’ Council for GCC States.
This year’s contest was themed “physical activity”.
The Public Health Department of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) won the second prize in the awareness poster category while Ismail Tellai, journalist at Al Arab newspaper won the first prize for the best health article.
Dr Al Arabi Ataa Allah Quaidri won the third prize for his article “Wahet Al Nefs” (oasis soul) published in the health section of Al Arab newspaper.
Director of Communication and Media Department at the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) and Member of Health Awareness Media Committee of the Executive Board Jassim Fakhroo congratulated all the winners from Qatar.
General Director of the Executive Office of GCC Council of Health Ministers, Dr Tawfeeq Bin Ahmed Khoja said entries from Qatar were very impressive and drew special attention of the arbitration committee.
The total number of nominated works were 111, 38 of which were excluded and 73 works accepted. There was 17 poster works, 6 health participations, 18 TV short thesis works, 8 for radio short thesis, 10 participations for E-Works, 9 health article and 10 works in short story section, added Khoja.
In the health article category, Dr Mohammed Al Dabaai from Yemen won the second prize and third prize went to Mohammed Al Khaledi, journalist at Al Watan newspaper in Bahrain.
As for awareness poster, the first prize went to Media Production Centre in Saudi Arabic and the second prize to the Public Health Department at SCH. Mohammed Al Nasseri from Ministry of Health, Oman won the third prize.
The Gulf Excellence Award, with prizes worth a total of $50,000 is a leading media award in the Middle East which aims to develop the spirit of innovation and creativity in health media.
Qatar had won three prizes in the previous version of the award 2012 – 2013 which was themed “Towards Healthy Life and Aged Health Enhancing”.
