DOHA: An inter-ministerial committee has been set up that is tasked with licensing and monitoring healthcare facilities at labour camps and construction sites. The committee has members from the Ministry of Labor and the Supreme Council of Health (SCH).
Besides, licensing healthcare facilities at labour camps and construction sites, the committee will oversee the appointment of medical staff at these facilities.
The committee will make sure that routine and surprise raids are conducted on the above facilities from time to time to check their compliance with rules.
The raids will be conducted jointly by labour inspectors and inspectors designated for the purpose by the SCH, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported yesterday.
Article 104 of the labour law (No 14 of 2004) and ministerial decision number 16 of 2005 stipulates that all labour camps and construction sites have medical facilities for workers.
According to the article, a company with between five and 25 workers must have first-aid box with basic medicines and medical equipment, and a full-time nurse with the above facilities if the number of workers is between 25 and 100.
Companies with 500 workers and more must have a clinic with a doctor and nurse.
The Labour Inspection Department at the Ministry of Justice yesterday organised an introductory seminar on Corporate Labour Law within the framework of its awareness role and as part of a series of seminar organized by the department twice a month.
Khalid Al Ghanim, Director of Inspection Department of the Ministry of Labour said, in a statement that these seminars were important to get acquainted with the laws, activities and developments carried out by the department.
He pointed out that the seminars gather representatives of companies and reply to their inquiries and types of violations as 20 companies take part in each seminar.
Al Ghanim also spoke about work development at the Labour Inspection Department during which he reviewed the work nature at the department related to receiving complaints, work contracts and salaries to ensure their occurrence through the relevant company.
