Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Thani Al Thani, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dar Al-Sharq Group, with other officials during the agreement signing ceremony.
Dar Al-Sharq Group, represented by Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Thani Al Thani, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors, and PRISA Group’s Executive Chairman, Juan Luis Cebrian, have signed a cooperation and partnership agreement in areas of media and culture in Madrid.
According to the special agreement, a digital sports media platform will be launched in the name of “AS Arabia” before the end of this year.
The two parties have expressed their desire to sign more agreements to enhance cooperation in the field of media communication and culture.
The agreement will strengthen mutual friendship between the two parties and enhance understanding between different civilizations, in particular between peoples speaking Arabic, Spanish and Portuguese.
Last August in Doha, Dar Al-Sharq’s e-management Company and Spanish company - AS signed a partnership agreement to launch “AS Arabia” - a digital media platform covering 25 countries in the Middle East and North Africa for providing the best media services in the field of sports content for the Arabic readers.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Kingdom of Spain, H E Mohammed Jaham Al Kuwari, and Dar Al Sharq Group’s CEO, Abdul Latif bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud.
Abdul Latif bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud said at the press conference after the agreement signing that Dar Al Sharq selected this partnership with AS, a PRISA’s subsidiary, due to its international reputation, professionalism and long experience in sports media, which have brought it millions of followers and readers around the world.
He added: “This encourages us to explore future cooperation between the two groups, expand partnership activities and exploit the opportunities in the coming period in light of the preparations for the 2022 World Cup, the largest sporting event in the world.”

Al Mahmoud pointed out: “Despite the blockade’s great challenges we currently face at all levels, we have a firm determination to continue working harder than ever to achieve our development goals under the leadership of H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, along with our wise government which is now implementing an urgent strategy to achieve self-sufficiency for our nation and go on development and construction schemes.”
PRISA Group’s CEO Mr. Juan Luis Cebrian said: “The partnership with Dar Al-Sharq Group represents an ambitious step in developing the Arabic sports content for readers across the Middle East and North Africa.”
The signing, he noted, of this agreement marks the starting point for enhancing partnership between the two groups. He further stated that the partnership also strengthens closer ties between Qatari and Spanish brotherly peoples and among all Arabic readers in the Middle East and the entire world.
He deemed such fruitful relations to be an important element in building bridges of dialogue, trust and cooperation among peoples through this global platform which brings together 40 countries from around the world.
Cebrian also said that the Spanish people feel pride for the distinguished relations between the two countries, whose foundation was laid by H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, and His Royal Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain, which contributed to the establishment of several Spanish-Qatari projects and bolstering cooperation between businessmen in both countries.
“AS” which is one of the global sports press pioneers, has an estimated 8 million followers on the web. The partnership with Dar Al Sharq - as one of the leading press and media institutions in the Gulf region - is a major development in the Arabic sports journalism throughout the Arabic sportscontent that will be published on AS Arabia website, targeting Arab readers across 25 countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
