THE PENINSULA
DOHA: The Islamic Research and Studies Department at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has published the second volume in the “Ummah Symposium” series, under the title: “Our Values... Pillars of Civilization and the Path to Revival.”
The book compiles the research papers and studies presented during the Ministry’s second cultural season, aimed at deepening public understanding of the foundational role values play in societal development and civilizational progress.
The publication, exceeding 500 pages, serves as a valuable academic reference for researchers, intellectuals, and students.
It reflects the Ministry’s commitment to preserving the rich intellectual contributions made during the symposium and making them widely accessible to support efforts to address pressing societal issues.
In his foreword, Director of the Islamic Research and Studies Department Dr. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Thani, stressed that choosing the theme “Our Values... Pillars of Civilization and the Path to Revival” highlights the Ministry’s belief in the centrality of values in building civilizations, preserving societal cohesion, and protecting the individual.
He noted that the symposium explored the spiritual foundations of Islamic values, emphasizing that their divine origin grants them permanence and strength.
It also affirmed that the erosion of values is a primary cause of civilizational decline, cultural deterioration, and intellectual decay.
The “Ummah Symposium” is part of the Ministry’s strategic cultural project to rebuild a value-conscious, faith-driven Muslim individual who contributes positively to the progress of the Ummah.
These symposiums are key to stimulating intellectual discourse, presenting diverse perspectives, and addressing issues relevant to both the individual and the wider community.
Supervised by the Sharia Studies Division, the symposium attracted a distinguished group of scholars, thinkers, preachers, officials, and academics from a range of disciplines to share insights on the role of values in modern society.
Featured Themes Across Four Symposium Sessions: First Session – Islamic Values as the Foundation of Civilization - focused on the richness of Islamic ethics as the primary driver of Islamic civilization and a powerful tool for reforming society and addressing contemporary challenges.
Second Session – The Family as the Core of Society - discussed the family unit as a cornerstone of societal stability, a guardian of values, and the first institution in shaping cultural and intellectual awareness.
The session warned against organized efforts to undermine or fragment the family structure.
Third Session – A Culture of Moderation and Tolerance - explored how these values, deeply rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah, have elevated the Muslim Ummah and attracted other nations to Islam.
It also highlighted how events like the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 embodied these principles on the global stage.
Fourth Session – Contemporary Atheism - addressed atheism as a major ideological threat, propagated across Muslim societies to disconnect people from divine revelation, destabilize communities, and dismantle spiritual and moral foundations.
Dr. Sheikh Ahmed noted the book’s comprehensive documentation of each session—including speaker biographies, program schedules, media coverage by national outlets and live streaming platforms such as Islamweb and social media channels—making it a critical scholarly resource for ongoing discourse around values and the revival of the Islamic Ummah.
