Artistes perform using laser technology ... mesmerising.

DOHA: Hundreds of people were mesmerised by the ‘Light Calligraphy Show’, a contemporary theatre performance, which premiered at the Katara Drama Theatre on Thursday night.

One of the highlights of Katara’s Ramadan Festival, the well applauded show was the first of its kind in Qatar using latest laser technology.

The performance was a feast to the eyes, fusing colours, shapes, lights, music, dance and Arabic calligraphy resulting in a very interesting act capable of entertaining people of all ages.

During the 45-minute show, two participants engaged in artistic dance performance using laser to communicate messages to the audience using Arabic calligraphy.

One more show will be staged tonight at 10pm at the same venue.

Meanwhile, Katara’s Ramadan quiz competition has been attracting hundreds of entries since it was launched as part of the festival to promote interaction with visitors.

The contest comprises 75 questions on cultural and religious information in Arabic and English. The questions can be found at the 25 crescent models distributed all around Katara.

Twenty-five winners will be chosen for the entire Ramadan to receive 125 iftar and suhoor vouchers in one of Katara’s restaurants. Each winner gets five iftar and suhoor vouchers.

The competition is still going on and those interested may send their answers via Katara’s Facebook account to have the opportunity to enter in raffle draws.
