Hundreds of job applicants flocked to SM North EDSA Skydome for the first day of the Manila Bulletin’s Classifieds Job Fair 2015 yesterday, May 26, with 1,300 registrants already recorded as of 4 p.m.
Two hours after the event was officially opened to the public, 611 job hunters were already registered and were trying their luck to get hired from the thousands of job vacancies offered by 31 companies from various industries. Both exhibitors and job seekers expressed optimism about getting the best results in the eighth leg of this year’s job fair.
Joining the job fair for the first time, retail and merchandise company Bayo Manila is aiming to get many qualified applicants from the two-day event.
“Since we have different sister companies such as Bayo, Vice Versa, Unica Hija, and Unica Hija Salon, we have a lot of opportunities to offer, most especially for the non-graduates,” Bayo HR Manager Jean Camilo said. She added that as long as the candidate fits their qualifications and is willing to work full time, he can be hired.
It would be better, Camilo said, if they could get enough hires for their manpower pool since sale can be a “fast-paced industry” where competition for talent is stiff. “There are times that we have direct competitors who pirate our employees,” she said.
UnitedHeath Group is also eyeing to hire more than their target number. “We’re looking for people with a four-year course, with or without BPO experience,” said UnitedHealth Group Recruitment Specialist Mayanara Nicole Esteban, adding that the bulk of their opening is for customer service representatives for their site in Quezon City. The BPO firm serves US-based customers.
Subic Bay Development and Industrial Estate Corporation (SUDECO), meanwhile, is looking for civil engineers for their next project in Makati. “We are building a mixed-used development so we need civil engineers who are knowledgeable in construction,” shared SUDECO Marketing Manager Genevieve Garcia. She added that they are also looking for accountants and bookkeeper “to move the leasing and the sales of the units that we will have.”
