Doha: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in coordination with the Ministry of Municipality and Widam Food Company (Widam), has announced the subsidised sheep meat price initiative for the month of Ramadan, 1443 AH.
This comes within the framework of a national initiative that encourages local production and subsidised sheep meat prices.
It also aims to ensure the availability of red meat at reasonable prices for citizens during the Holy Month, whilst striking a balance between supply and demand to ensure stable market prices.
Widam will provide 30,000 local and imported sheep at subsidised prices to citizens (two sheep per citizen).
To make the purchase, citizens are required to present their original ID cards at Widam slaughterhouses in Al Wakrah, Al Shamal, Al Khor, Umm Salal, and Al Sheehaniya.
Citizens can make their sheep purchases from March 27, 2022, until the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The Ministry stipulated that slaughter be carried out in slaughterhouses to ensure that sheep are accessible to customers.
Sheep delivery will be managed by Widam Food Company, in coordination with the Ministry, and in a manner that ensures compliance with the precautionary and preventive requirements against the spread of COVID-19.
The additional costs include QR16 for the slaughter, cutting, and packaging, and QR34 for porters, to be purchased as separate coupons.
The Ministry continues to intensify its inspection campaigns on sales outlets to ensure the availability of live sheep and other foodstuffs in the markets. All necessary measures are being taken to combat commercial fraud, protect competition, and prevent monopolistic practices to safeguard consumer rights.
Slaughterhouses are asked to adhere to the precautionary requirements, stressing that it will take all legal measures in line with Law No. (8) of 2008 regarding Consumer Protection.
Consumers are urged to report any violations or infringements, and to send complaints and suggestions through its communication channels.
