Bedaya introduces 10-week jewellery design program

Doha: Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (Bedaya Center), the joint initiative by Qatar Development Bank and Silatech, has introduced a new program revolving around Entrepreneurship Talent Development. 

Conducted in collaboration with VCUarts Qatar, the program is about jewellery design that commenced on November 15, 2019 and will run till February 29, 2020. 

The 10-week program is being held at the Virginia Commonwealth University – Arts and design Faculty in Qatar. The three-hour course every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, aims at developing entrepreneurial skills for the attendees and teach them how to turn their ideas into existing businesses.  

During the program, participants will be introduced to several themes that will sharpen their talents such as jewellery history internationally and in the Middle East, introducing industry leaders, as well as learning to turn their inspiration into paper through an introduction to free drawing, the importance of multiple drawings and how national culture affects their local designs, the use of Adobe Illustrator.

In addition, participants will have an introduction to silver and gold and the nature of metal surfaces, the nature of the production chain, the principles of marketing and branding, the use of social media, identify target markets, and the creation of their own brand.

Furthermore, participants will be able to learn how to cut using laser, use triple printing, designing and manufacturing of international jewellery, the best ways to start the project through the opening of a specialized store, how to participate in exhibitions and ways to sell designs instead of manufactured pieces.

From the fifth to the ninth week of the program, participants will be able to experience the production by turning their paper drawings into pieces of art. On the last week, entrepreneurs will learn about the importance of displaying their jewellery in stores or online.
