Doah, Qatar: With the start of the new Hijri year 1447 AH, the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque today carried out the annual replacement of the Kiswa (cover) of the Holy Kaaba.
The old Kiswa was removed and the new one installed and secured over the Kaaba’s corners and rooftop.
“By the grace of Allah, the ceremony of replacing the Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba for the year 1447 AH has been completed successfully. We ask Allah to continue to increase the honor and reverence of this sacred house,” the General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques stated on its platform on X on Thursday.
The new Kiswa weighs 1,415 kilograms, measures 14 meters in height, and consists of four separate sides and a door curtain.
It includes 16 belt pieces, 7 pieces below the belt, 17 lantern-shaped ornaments beneath the belt, 4 “Sammad” panels, and one piece representing the decoration of the Mizab (water spout).

As part of the preparations for the replacement ceremony, a special trailer was allocated to transport and preserve the Kiswa until it arrives at the Grand Mosque.
The Authority noted that the process was carried out under the supervision of 154 skilled Saudi craftsmen, each assigned to a specific section of the Kaaba and its roof, to ensure precision and quality in execution.
