Doha: Two students from Park House English School, with help from Vodafone Qatar, saw their idea of helping labourers in Doha turn into reality when 1,000 boxes of food were distributed to the needy.
Paige Bowen and Olivia Proctor’s idea was brought to life thanks to support from the school’s not-for-profit community engagement arm, the Park House Community Initiative, and Vodafone’s World of Difference Campaign.
To be eligible to take part in the Campaign, students from Park House had to start up their own charitable projects that could either help a specific group of people, make a difference to the environment, a social issue, a charitable cause, or one that could make a difference within or outside Qatar. The winning ideas would then be offered financial support of up to QR10,000 by Vodafone Qatar and logistical support by the school.
Vodafone Qatar selected the winning team of Paige and Olivia. Their idea centred on providing food items to labourers in Doha. Vodafone Qatar donated the funds to have 1,000 boxes manufactured. Paige and Olivia worked with the staff and students at Park House to distribute 750 boxes to families at the school, and Vodafone employees filled the other 250 boxes. Each of the boxes was filled with different types of dry foods, including rice, spices, dried food items and tinned food.
Niall Brennan, Director of Park House, said: “At Park House, one of our core values is to be kind. We see the school’s role to be not only a centre of educational excellence but also a community hub and we deliver this through our not-for-profit community engagement arm, the Park House Community Initiative. We look to our corporate family for additional support to enhance our community and for the opportunity for all of our students to recognise the importance of working together to lead change. In the light of this, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude and appreciation to the staff and families at Park House English School and to Vodafone Qatar for supporting our students.”
Vodafone’s Head of CSR, Dana Haidan, said: “We are proud to partner with Park House and launch our flagship programme, World of Difference. We love to support student charitable ideas as we believe it is important to encourage students from a young age to not only participate in charity work, but also initiate charitable projects. This is how you bring about positive change in society, through making youth the drivers of change.”
