Doha: Qatar Charity has laid the foundation stone for a house to rehabilitate 50 orphans aged from one year to 15 in Yemen’s capital Sana’a at a cost of QR1m.
QC said in a press statement yesterday that during a QC delegation’s visit to Yemen led by Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Jassim Al Thani, QC General Assembly member and the General Inspector of the Qualitative Projects in Yemen, the foundation stone of the project was laid.
The project is expected to be carried out in a year and a half. The two-storey building includes bedrooms and a living room, a hall for the teaching of the Holy Quran, shops and apartments to be rented as offices or housing as well as offices for the management of the complex’s waqf, a restaurant for orphans and rooms for female baby sitters, a kitchen and a mosque, toilets and a hall for games.
QC and Yemen has ealier signed three agreements worth of over $1.4m for humanitarian projects in the country.
Under the first agreement, QC grants $1.089m for a project of restoration 130 house of those affected by confrontations between the armed forces and Al Qaeda militants in Zinjibar. QC also donated $100,000 to perform 55 heart operations for Yemenis by a specialist medical team from Hamad Medical Corporation and Qatar’s Al Ahli Hospital.
