Teachers attending the arts workshop at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar.
DOHA: Among the many activities lined up for the World Environment Day (WED) celebrations in Qatar, IAID, in association with the Friends of the Environment Centre (FEC), organised a workshop on arts recently, at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCU-Q).
It was held with the objective of helping art instructors in Qatar find deeper meaning and pleasure in visual arts using environment as their inspiration. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with Faber-Castell. Known as the world’s leading brand for its high quality professional arts supplies in the art and graphic line, fine writing instruments and accessories in creative design, Faber Castell has been actively supporting the WED celebration in Qatar since it started seven years ago. More than 100 teachers from over 30 schools attended the workshop that was conducted by Faber-Castell creative artists Yayu Afliyani Rahayu and Rizal Susanto.
Teachers received lecture on basic drawing techniques, basic drawing presentation, drawing session and arts and crafts.
“We organised this workshop for teachers to help them respond to the environmental challenges we face, and this was just one step in our ongoing efforts to raise awareness and spread the adoption of environment friendly behaviours and attitudes amongst Qatar’s residents,” said Rajesh Jadhav, Production Head, WED 2013.
A host of fun games were also held during the workshop, where six participants got a chance to win prizes that included, free courses from IAID and drawing material from Faber-Castell.
“To create an art workshop that includes creative and innovative content is always a challenge. However, with the help of Faber-Castell we were able to turn a typical teachers art workshop to a memorable experience. We are very grateful for the support of the teachers who attended this event and for VCU-Q for providing us an apt venue for this project, it was truly an inspiring day for everyone”, said Marianne Indrinal Project Manager, WED 2013.
Paulita D Pal, a participating teacher from Philippine School Doha, explained her satisfaction, saying, “I have been teaching arts for the last few years, but the workshop has given me a new understanding on how to use creative skills and know how to see and understand the environment in a simple and positive way.”
