HMC to hold Middle East Forum on Quality & Safety in Healthcare

Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation will organise the 8th Middle East Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare from March 19 to 22 with the participation of nearly 3000 physicians, nurses, pharmacists, specialists and those interested in this field.

Nasser Al Naimi (pictured), the Deputy Chief of Quality, Director of Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute and the Co-Chair of the Middle East Forum, said that this year’s Forum will be held at Qatar National Convention Cente (QNCC) under the slogan “Igniting Change, Shaping the Future Together,” adding that the forum will include, for the first time, four educational tours to Hamad Medical Corporation’s specialist centers.

He stated that the educational tours aim to highlight the experiences of these centers in developing the healthcare system and reaching the highest levels of safety in patient care. The tours will visit the Ambulance Service, Itqan Clinical Simulation and Innovation Center, Center for Patient Experience and Staff Engagement and the Trauma and Emergency Center.

Al Naimi said that the Forum is organized annually by Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute in collaboration with the US Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). It involves more than 20 educational and training workshops supervised by local and international experts in the field of healthcare development sciences. 

He revealed that the Forum this year includes the largest educational program by organizing 60 lectures and 50 international lecturers from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement as well as quality and safety personnel from Hamad Medical Corporation and health and educational institutions in Qatar, such as the Ministry of Public Health, Primary Health Care Corporation, Sidra Medicine, Qatar University, World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH), and Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute, in addition to speakers from different countries such as the United Kingdom, Kuwait and Oman.

He explained that the Forum will also have the ‘Knowledge Zone’ exhibition organized with the participation of 15 institutions, including the Ministry of Public Health, Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute, Center for Patient Experience and Staff Engagement, Primary Health Care Corporation, Qatar Red Crescent, Sidra Medicine, Qatar University, World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) and others. The Knowledge Zone will also have more than 150 research posters regarding quality and safety in healthcare.

Nasser Al Naimi pointed out that 60 percent of the research posters will be provided by Hamad Medical Corporation and the rest will be provided by health organizations inside the country and medical research institutions from outside Qatar, all of which cover various topics that reflect the goals of the Forum.

He indicated that the Forum will also include many discussion sessions that focus on the latest developments and experiences in the field of quality and safety of healthcare, adding that this year the focus will be on discussing patient-centered healthcare services, as a lecture will be organized in which a number of patients will participate and talk about their experiences of Qatar’s healthcare system.

Al Naimi explained that a number of new initiatives will be announced during the Forum, which will focus on improving quality and safety in healthcare, pointing out that the Middle East Forum is an important platform for exchanging experiences between all those concerned in this field and looking at the latest innovations and modern methods that contribute to providing high quality healthcare.
