NEW YORK: Twenty-eight people were injured Saturday after a vehicle ran over a crowd watching the Krewe of Endymion parade in New Orleans, Louisiana, according to police.

A suspect was taken into custody as an investigation continues, police chief Michael Harrison told reporters.

"We suspect that that subject was highly intoxicated," Harrison said.

Twenty-one of the victims were hospitalized while the other seven refused to go to hospital, according to New Orleans Emergency Services Director, Dr. Jeff Elder.
