Football legend Maradona dead

Doha: Argentina soccer legend Diego Maradona died of a heart attack on Wednesday, his lawyer said. 

Maradona, 60, had recently battled health issues and underwent emergency surgery for a subdural haematoma several weeks ago.

Maradona enjoyed a cult-like following for his football achievements, especially after leading Argentina to 1986 World Cup glory. Four years later in Mexico, Argentinian once again guided his team to the 1990 World Cup final which was won by Germany.

Brazilian football great Pele said it is sad to "lose friends this way" fol-lowing death of Maradona.

Maradona suffered a heart attack in Tigre, Buenos Aires, after undergoing surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain earlier this month, according to the Clarin newspaper.

President Alberto Fernandez immediately announced three days of national mourning in the South American country.
