DOHA: The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) yesterday celebrated the arrival of the traditional dhow Fath Al Khair 2 voyage at Mumbai Port, amid an official and popular Qatari and Indian presence.
The boat was received by Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager, Katara, Qatari Ambassador to India Ahmed Ibrahim Al Abdullah and others officials.
As the dhow docked opposite the Gateway of India, traditional Indian music was played to announce the arrival of the dhow that reflects the sublime meaning of ancestors’ heritage.
Addressing attendees at Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai, Al Sulaiti said: “We are delighted to be here in Mumbai in India with which we have historic ties on all levels. Today, Katara summons the beautiful history once again through this remarkable voyage. It recalls the journeys our ancestors used to make in search of livelihood and trade more than 60 years ago.”
He said: “At Katara, we are determined to safeguard the authentic Qatari heritage.
“We are also determined to introduce it to the new generation and make them aware of challenges our ancestors had encountered which made our glorious history.
Al Abdullah said: “As we are welcoming Fath Al Khair, we recall the history of our ancestors and their suffering in pursuing their livelihood.”
The dhow sailed from Katara beach on October 5 and docked at Sur Port in Oman prior to resuming the voyage to India.
