Qatari cueists qualify for knockout stage

Doha: Three players Ahmed Saif, Ali Alobaidli and Mohsen Bukshaisha representing hosts Qatar made it to the knockout stage of the Asian 6Reds Championship 2018 here yesterday.

At the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation hall, Ahmed representing the host nation emerged as one of the two top seeds from the preliminary rounds of the championship along with Hong Kong’s Cheung Ka Wai. Exhibiting excellent game, Cheung and Saif, both finished all their league stage matches at the cost of one frame only. A total of 22 players qualified for the knockout stage after completion of league round on day two

Qatar had six players competing in the preliminary rounds with half of them making it to the knock out stage. Apart from Ahmed, the other two players from Qatar who qualified are Al Obaidli and former World 6Reds No.4 Bukshaisha.

The Qatari trio are set for a tough competition in the next stage. Among the qualified players include three from India, Kamal Chawla, Varun Madan and Ishpreet Singh Chadha.

The top three from the knock out stage will get a chance to play in the newly introduced Asian Ranking Tour 2018 whose first leg is starting in Doha from September 26 and will end on September 29.

The Asian 6Reds championship will be followed by the Asian 10 Reds Snooker championship.
