Doha: The Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) has announced the issuance of the Official Statistics Dissemination Policy that includes the determinants, controls and basic concepts for communicating statistics through various means of dissemination, which appropriately ensures that the needs of all of users are met.

The Official Statistics Dissemination Policy Qatar is based on several guidelines namely, Amiri Resolution No. (70) of 2018 establishing the Planning and Statistics Authority, Law No. 2 of 2011 on Official Statistics, and the “Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics” adopted by UNGA on 29 January 2014.

President of Planning and Statistics Authority, H E Dr. Saleh bin Muhammad Al Nabit, emphasized that the Official Statistics Dissemination Policy primarily focuses on meeting the needs of users of such statistics in Qatar, particularly decision-makers, researchers, investors, those involved in public affairs and others.

Furthermore, he stressed PSA’s relentless endeavour in the field of official statistics dissemination in order to keep pace with and benefit from technological developments at the international level, with a view to easily deliver PSA’s products to all users. Therefore, the “Official Statistics Dissemination Policy” document is updatable in line with developments in the statistics dissemination process.

The Official Statistics Dissemination Policy defines the fundamental principles of data dissemination, and contains explanations on several concepts, such as the Open Data Policy adopted by Qatar in 2014, the dissemination of individual data for the results of Household and Economic Establishments Surveys, and metadata for variables, indicators and classifications used across the statistical process.

This policy guarantees the quality of statistical products published by PSA, starting with ensuring the accuracy and reliability of data, adherence to publication dates, quick and easy access, and comparability, as well as managing metadata related to the statistical processes structure and design, from the preparation stage to the stage of data collection, classification and dissemination.

Moreover, the Official Statistics Dissemination Policy also includes an explanation on the electronic publication of data on PSA’s official website (www.psa.gov.qa) and “Qatar Statistics” application, as well as dissemination of data using social media. It is noteworthy that the Official Statistics Dissemination Policy will be available in hard copies at PSA Library, and in a soft copy on PSA’s official website.
