Canadians paid 1.3 percent more for goods and services in May than a year ago, as gasoline prices rose more slowly and falling food costs near-bottomed out, statistics showed.
The figures compared with a 1.6 percent uptick in prices in April. Prices were up in six of eight categories charted by Statistics Canada.
The cost of buying a home, a passenger vehicle, fresh vegetables and restaurant meals were all up in May. Airfares also cost more, while video equipment prices fell, the government agency said.
