Qatar takes part in Global Conference on Education for Sustainable Development

Qatar participated in the Unesco Global Conference on Education for Sustainable Development, under the title ‘We learn for our planet, we work for sustainability’.
Representing Qatar, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi; the Secretary General of Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science Dr. Hamada Hasan Al Sulaiti; and a number of ministry leaders, representatives from Qatar University (QU) and Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) participated in the conference, as well as representatives of the affiliated schools of Unesco.
Dr. Al Nuaimi stressed that the responsibility for achieving education for the sustainable development goals is a joint responsibility and is not specialised to the ministries of education only, but rather is a participatory responsibility that includes all parties from the ministries of education and scientific and research institutions as well as civil society organizations and experts.
“Believing from Qatar that education for sustainable development is education for a bright future for everyone in every time and place, we have undertaken several initiatives to achieve these goals, as a supreme committee was formed included all parties related to the educational and developmental affairs in the country to ensure coherence and complementarity between education and the sustainable development goals,” said Dr. Al Nuaimi.
Al Nuaimi referred to the efforts and initiatives of Qatar in addressing the phenomenon of climate change and its repercussions in many fields and sectors, including but not limited to ‘Plant Million Tree’ initiative  which the Ministry was keen to ensure that the main group active is school students.
The three-day conference witnessed the participation of 2,500 people from all regions of the world, especially policy-makers concerned with the field of education and other fields related to sustainable development, as well as personalities from civil society, the development community, and the private sector.
