Doha: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has advised motorists not to follow ambulances as it’s a blatant violation of traffic rules and regulations.

Some drivers commit such violations in an attempt to get away from traffic jam.

“Following ambulances is a wrong traffic behaviour. Respect for traffic rules is a civilised behaviour and is perfect and safe,” the ministry tweeted recently on its official twitter account. The General Directorate of Traffic recently launched a civil patrol vehicle equipped with a sophisticated radar to catch traffic violations on roads particularly where there are no or lesser number of cameras installed.

Such patrols can catch these kinds of violations and get photo of violations and even can record videos. This vehicle can also catch violations of speed limit during patrolling. Also, the radar-mounted car can be used for other security tasks.

This violation of following ambulances is considered immoral and this attitude may cause traffic accidents. People can share such violations to the General Directorate of Traffic by sending photos to Department through Metrash2.  It is very important for motorists to help ambulances by giving way to move ahead as they must be performing an urgent emergency service to save the life of someone or providing some other assistance.

The General Directorate of Traffic has also warned drivers of over speed specially before Iftar. It is considered to be a cause for many traffic accidents and in order to curb such violations, the department provides Iftar meals for drivers on many roads specially to truck drivers on highways.

The department announced recently that it had seized more than 850 vehicles since the beginning of the holy Ramadan for violating traffic rules such as reckless driving, drifting, crossing red signals, driving without number plate etc.
