Doha: Upon the directives of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on sending additional medical aid to the Islamic Republic of Iran in support of the State of Qatar for the efforts of Iran to combat the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) yesterday sent a shipment of additional medical aid to Iran.

The shipment, which Qatar Airways has delivered, weighs 15 tonnes and contains basic medical equipment and supplies, QFFD said in a statement adding that it comes within the framework of the State of Qatar’s continuous efforts to operate air bridges of urgent medical aid to countries where COVID-19 has spread.

Director-General of QFFD, Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari, commented saying that this continued assistance to the Islamic Republic of Iran reflects the active role of the State of Qatar in supporting brotherly and friendly countries, and helping them to overcome and contain this crisis and fight the pandemic, which poses a threat to the whole world.

In the past two months, the State of Qatar has provided, through QFFD, many urgent medical assistance to sisterly and friendly countries to face this unprecedented pandemic. This is not the first time for Qatar to send medical aid to Iran, as last month it sent 13 tons of supplies to fill the shortfall in medical supplies needed to combat COVID-19.
