Qatar Airways has announced its role as Official Airline Partner of the 8th Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition (EnviroteQ) and the 2nd Qatar International Environmental Exhibition (EnviroteQ) 2021.
Held under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, from 23 to 27 March 2021, Qatar’s AgriteQ & EnviroteQ will highlight innovation in agricultural techniques, and pinpoint the road map to achieving food security and sustainable development in Qatar.
Qatar Airways has always been at the forefront of the national efforts towards achieving sustainability. The national carrier has demonstrated environmental leadership through its global airline and airport operations, as well as through aviation and catering services, retail outlets and hotels.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, H E Akbar Al Baker, commented: “We are pleased to partner with AgriteQ and EnviroteQ – an initiative that enables local and international agriculture stakeholders to exchange expertise and seize business opportunities in this vital sector. Through these exhibitions, we are proud to reaffirm our commitment to supporting the local agriculture sector, achieving national food security and promoting environmental sustainability”.
In 2019, Qatar Airways partnered with Qatarat Agricultural Development Company (QADCO) to supply Qatar Aircraft Catering Company (QACC) with fresh produce to be served onboard Qatar Airways flights from Doha as well as across the lounges in Hamad International Airport (HIA). The two-year agreement demonstrates Qatar Airways’ commitment to contributing towards Qatar’s self-sufficiency goals in support of the Qatar National 2030 vision.
Qatar Airways’ focus on sustainability also extends to its home and hub, Hamad International Airport (HIA), which was recently voted ‘Third Best Airport in the World’ and ‘Best Airport in the Middle East’ for the sixth year in a row. The terminal building will be the first airport in the MENA region to achieve a 4-star Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) rating, which was developed for rating green buildings and infrastructures. The terminal will also be a LEED Silver certified building, featuring several innovative energy efficient measures.
Qatar Airways also has a zero-tolerance policy to the illegal transportation of endangered wildlife. Qatar Airways is proud to be an inaugural signatory to the United for Wildlife Transport Industry Declaration and a partner in the USAID Reducing Opportunities for Unlawful Transport of Endangered Species (ROUTES) Partnership. As a further testament to the Qatar Airways Group’s commitment to preserving wildlife and endangered animals, Qatar Airways Cargo announced in February 2021 Chapter 2 of its sustainability programme WeQare: Rewild the Planet, which includes a pledge to transport wild animals back to their natural habitat, free of charge.
