DOHA: World renowned Spanish fashion designer Alejandro Resta mulls of launching an abaya collection and opening a boutique in Doha.
“I was very impressed with abayas the first time I came to Qatar. I fell in love with abayas, the fabrics you have here, the fashion style of the Qatari women” said the award-winning designer.
Speaking to local media recently, Resta said: “Probably very soon I’m going to launch a new collection of Spanish-style abayas here. I find the style of the abayas interesting and I would love to create a new collection with new colours very soon.”
Resta recently conducted a design master class for fashion connoisseurs in Doha and was among the 12 designers who showcased their creations at Shop Qatar’s International Fashion Show held at Mondrian Doha last night.
It was the first time Resta featured in a show in Doha though he has been to Qatar multiple times to meet individual clients and his goal to have his own boutique in Doha, he said.
“At the moment we do have retailers very interested to show Alejandro Resta. Probably very soon we will open a corner in one of the boutiques and hopefully next year open our own boutique because we have inquiries who are interested in ready couture and haute couture ,” he said.
Commenting on the three-day master class he conducted with his fashion brand director Carlos Sánchez Caballero, he lauded the level of enthusiasm of students who came from different ages and backgrounds.
“We were surprised of the quality of students and we are very much satisfied because they are appreciative and eager to learn,” he said, adding he was also impressed of the quality of designers the country has.
At last night’s show, Resta showcased 15 pieces from his ‘Candy’ collection inspired by his late grandmother and the region in Spain where she came from which has a lot of Arab influence. “I dedicate this whole collection to my grandmother who passed away last month. Her name is Candy and she introduced me to fashion teaching me how to sew. She was from Andalusia in southern Spain which is historically very much related to the Arab world,” he said.
The demi-couture quintessential Spanish design collection which is very flamenco in style embodied traditional Andalusia fashion.
The well-attended fashion event highlighted celebrity appearance by popular Pakistani movie stars Maya Ali and Imran Abbas who walked the runway wearing Resta’s design.
