Doha: Organised by the Cultural Village Foundation-Katara in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), the fifth edition of Mahaseel Festival inaugurated yesterday and it will continue until January 2.

The opening was attended by a number of Ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions in Doha, in addition to Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Agriculture and Fisheries Affairs at the MME, Masoud Jarallah Al Marri, and Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Mahaseel Festival, Salman Al Nuaimi.

Owners of Qatari farms, representatives of the participating national companies and large number of visitors to Katara also attended the opening.

Katara organises this festival every year as a way to support the Qatari agricultural sector and national livestock and food products, as well as to offer business opportunities to owners of Qatari farms.

Katara General Manager, Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, made a tour to stalls of 28 Qatari farms displaying many varieties of fresh vegetables and honey, in addition to nine stalls for local companies specialised in farming sheep, cattle, calves, eggs, poultry, milk and its derivatives, as well as eight stalls displaying products of flowers, roses and ornamental plants.

Al Sulaiti said: “The launch of the fifth edition of Mahaseel Festival comes today after a series of successes achieved by the festival over its previous sessions, expressing his happiness that the festival offers a marketing experience in a vital and attractive place that citizens and residents of different nationalities flock to.”

“The festival contributes to facilitating the marketing process for farm owners and companies to display their various products, which include various types of fresh vegetables, meat, poultry, dates, honey, and milk with high quality and reasonable prices for the public,” he added.

Katara Manager indicated that the festival is witnessing a remarkable growth in terms of participation by farmers and local companies, pointing out that Katara provided farmers a platform to exchange experiences and contribute to the development of agricultural production.

Katara is committed to the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus through the social distancing and Ehteraz application upon entry, as well as providing sterilizers and masks.

Mahaseel Festival provides an excellent platform for local farms to directly market their produce as well as introduce people to the varieties of fruits and vegetables grown in Qatar which they can purchase at affordable prices.
